Healthcare Management Training in Kenya in 2021

In August 2021, I had the privilege of facilitating a three-day board induction training at Kitui County and Referral Hospital, together with my healthcare management colleagues, Karen Kiranka and Caroline Njuguna. The experience was both enriching and inspiring, as it created a valuable space for learning, dialogue, and collaboration between board members and hospital leadership.

A key focus of the training was exploring how hospital boards can effectively support healthcare managers and, in turn, how healthcare managers can work closely with boards to strengthen governance and decision-making. Through shared discussions and practical reflections, we emphasized the importance of clear roles, trust, and mutual accountability. Ultimately, the training highlighted how strong collaboration between boards and management is essential for building resilient health institutions and strengthening the healthcare system as a whole.

I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important work and look forward to further engagements that support effective health system governance.
